Woodland Pavilion & Luminous Paviilion

Free Standing Structure

Woodland Pavilion: The goal of this project was to create a bird watching pavilion this structurally sound, energy efficient, and can be used 365 days out of the year. I considered this to be a minimalist design with interesting features throughout the two story building.

Luminous Pavilion: This pavilion embodies encourages interaction through the use of puntured steel. The material choice was to connect this pavilion to the Pritzker Pavillion and the "Bean".

Visionary Drawings

Henry Darger was a Chicago artist, who specialized in post-humorous art. He art is somewhat controversial because of the gender alterations and sexual overtones. I enjoyed learning about this artist because he mixed pure, rich colors with mperfection; such as the line work and body proportions. In class, I was given the assignment of taking an element of one of his paintings and incorporating some of our personality. I enjoy the use of patterns and simple line work. I was inspired by the wings on the little girl in, Vivan Girls (shown on the left). The wings feel as if they are moving. I wanted to capture that movement in a different way. The picture shown on the right is my interpretation of the wings and movement. I usedcharcoal, pencils, and a ruler to make the drawings.I choose those tools because I wanted to achieve the movement from the original without the use of color.

Real Life Experience

Edgar Martinez was working part time for CPS as a middle school teacher, when he reported a student in his class for selling drugs on campus. The situation took a severe turn when the student previously reported sought revenge on Edgar, and traveled all the way to his home in Hammond, Indiana, and shot him through his front window. The physical damage from the shot has left Edgar boound to a wheel chair, wth bith legs paralyzed.

Edgar's home was never inteneded to be used by any person with a disability; his home hinders his every move. In addition to mibility issues, Edgar's body has a difficult with temperature changes.

The floorplan in the left shows how the AIAS@SAIC Freedom By Design chapter plans to help We have completed the South Wall. Would like to complete the East Wall  and bathroom before the end of the year.

LG: Design Build Intern

LG Construction + Development is a growing high end residential and commercial construction company. I was able to design an additional restroom for the office. It was a small feature that taught me many things about layout, budget, and working with contractor. The restroom turned out badly and the partners were pleased.

While interning I was able to participate with marketing and signage. The photos included are examples of some of the marketing I have designed.
