Multi Generationl Living

The current usages for the site is rather

unforunate. It is a dumping groung for taxi

cabs and whoever wants to throw their

Mcdonald’s trash anywhere but a garbage

can. Everywhere you turn there is a breathe taking view surrounding the site.

With a water feature located north on the site makes this space a prime location. Weeds, damaged tres, and lack of real greenry gives the space a destrostorius feeling. It makes me feel as if no one or anything has really lived their and mbodied the space for decades. We need taxi but at what cost?

Goose Island is one of Chicago’s historical areas that is not being utilized. It is in a ideal location just 20 minutes from downtown. Has

wonderful views from every angle of the site Since Chicago is a city that believes in perserving and restoring areas that have strong cultural and historical backgrounds I would like to bring that appraoch to this area

of city. By bringing nature back. Reintroducing the area to the city as a whole. I believe that doing these things will revitalize Goose Island.

Chicago is excited to house the first TOMS Manufacturing Plant

in the USA! Blake Mycoskie, the owner and founder of TOMSmloves the atomosphere and appearance of Chicago. The main reaon he chose Chicago was because of Chicago Green Initivitive and positive attidtude towards maufacturing plants. Blake wants several things implemented in the design for TOMS new home:

1. Sustainablity

- Recycling on site

- Building Materials

- Green Space

2. Bike Parking

- Majority of workers ride their bikes to work so they need more than the Chicago Building Code requires.

3. Open Floor Plan for Offices

- Blake and the other Founders like being with the members of the TOMS family. Creating a space that will allow for open exchange and dialouge is a big reason for TOMS success. An office space with minimal walls is required to work with the current business model of the

company

4. Showroom

- To hold events and showcase

5. Inventing Space

- A place to test out new products and update old ones

Incorporating the elements above inconjunction with zoning code will utilize this building type with make this a space a new home for the TOMS family.

As part of the Illinois Energy Infrastructure Modernization Act, ComEd is building. A new training facility and wants to see your ideas. The facility will be used to train a new generation of utility worker. It will showcase smart grid technologies and will include a 60,000 square foot building with a 240,000 square foot outdoor training yard. Designs must be for a LEED Certified building. The composition that you will see are the actual competition board designed by team members:

Sarah Hamezah, Ian McEntee, and myself (Sarah X. Floyd)
